“Never get too busy making a living that you forget to make a life.”
You should work to live, not live to work, what is life when you’re not living it?
Here at Agricultural Recruitment Specialists, we’ve compiled together some of the top tips to help assist you with your work-life balance.
Time management: Manage your time as effectively as possible. The average working day (including the commute) is around 10 hours. Half of those hours may be spent on sending personal emails or chatting to colleagues – that is not work time spent effectively. At work, work hard, ensure that you complete all tasks and to-dos for the day. That way you can go home with the knowledge that you are up to date with your work flow and will feel less stressed.
Be flexible: Many employers offer flexible working conditions. If working from home or starting your day earlier is going to help, ask your employer if it's possible. The employer will benefit from this as you will work with more commitment and focus as you’re working around your personal preferences.
Look after yourself: Set yourself a daily routine for your working week. Take advantage of your lunch break to increase your energy levels. Take advantage of your free time, don’t check your emails before you go to bed, set a time on the evening for yourself to unwind. If you don’t take good care of your health, the quality of your work will go downhill and you'll end up even more stressed.
Schedule in fun: This stops work from taking over your personal life. Make time for family and friends, this is proven to make you feel more satisfied with your relationships. Plan ahead, never be without something to look forward to. Life is more exciting and fulfilling with future plans.
Work with, not against. Look for tasks and projects that you particularly enjoy doing. If you let your managers know that you're good at something and really enjoy doing it, they're likely to give you more of the same.
We believe that to ensure you are most productive in your day that planning your day ahead is always best. This way you are achieving what you set out to do and don’t end up feeling stressed – thus resulting in you enjoying your personal life more as you are managing successfully all aspects of your life.
Work hard and play hard!
