Assistant General Manager
Assistant General Manager - Multi Species Abattoir & Food Manufacturing Facility - Staffordshire - £60,000 - £65,000 + Gym + Medical + Benefits

The Job:
An opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Assistant General Manager to support the leadership and operational performance of a multi species organic abattoir and food manufacturing facility. This is a development focused role designed for an experienced operational leader who is looking to progress towards a General Manager position over time. Working closely with the General Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations across slaughter, butchery, processing and value added production.

Key responsibilities::
- Support the General Manager in leading day to day site operations across slaughter, butchery and food production
- Deputise for the General Manager when required, taking responsibility for overall site performance and leadership teams
- Oversee production activities to optimise throughput, yield, efficiency and cost control
- Support production planning in line with customer demand and supply chain requirements
- Lead operational meetings and contribute to KPI reviews and performance improvement plans
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the site
- Support compliance with food safety, HACCP, BRCGS, SALSA, animal welfare and regulatory requirements
- Maintain high standards of hygiene, traceability, product integrity and audit readiness
- Support the delivery of strong animal welfare standards and ethical livestock handling practices
- Assist with health and safety management, risk assessments, investigations and training initiatives
- Monitor operational costs, labour efficiency and key performance metrics
- Support financial planning, forecasting, and identifying opportunities for cost improvements
- Lead, coach, and develop teams across production, hygiene, maintenance and quality functions
- Support relationships with customers, suppliers, regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders
- Assist with maintenance planning, equipment reliability and site improvement projects

The Candidate:
- Proven experience within abattoir, meat processing, food manufacturing or a similar operational environment
- Strong experience managing teams within a production or manufacturing setting with the ability to drive performance
- Good understanding of food safety standards, HACCP, BRCGS/SALSA requirements, animal welfare and regulatory compliance
- Commercial awareness with experience analysing performance data, managing costs and understanding P&L principles
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to influence teams and stakeholders
- Ambitious mindset with the desire to develop towards a General Manager position; relevant qualifications such as Food Science, Agriculture, Operations Management, HACCP, IOSH or NEBOSH would be advantageous

- Salary package of £60,000 - £65,000 DOE

Candidate Requirements
