Grower - Balfour, South Africa - €5,000 per Month

The Job:
We are recruiting for an experienced Grower to join a progressive, high-tech greenhouse operation based in Balfour, South Africa. This is a technically focused tomato growing position, suited to a horticultural professional with strong experience in irrigation, hydroponics, crop protection, climate management and labour management.
Working closely with the Head Grower, you will take responsibility for an assigned greenhouse section, using crop data and technical knowledge to optimise plant health, yield, quality and production.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded horticultural professional looking to develop their career within a modern, technology-driven growing operation.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the full tomato crop cycle, including plant health, crop development, yield, quality, harvesting, maintenance, pollination and variety trials
- Oversee irrigation, hydroponic/fertigation and climate systems, monitoring EC, pH, nutrients and environmental conditions
- Implement IPM and biological crop protection programmes, identifying and resolving plant health and production issues
- Lead and develop the growing team, managing labour, schedules, training and day-to-day growing activities
- Monitor crop performance and manage production planning, materials, SOPs, compliance, reporting and continuous improvement

Our client operates a high tech greenhouse growing business with a strong focus on innovation, sustainable production and continuous improvement. The operation uses modern growing technology and data-led crop management, providing the successful candidate with exposure to advanced tomato production, irrigation and fertigation systems, climate control, biological crop protection and crop trials.

The Candidate
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Plant Science or a related discipline
- 1–2 years' experience within a mid- or high-tech greenhouse environment, with previous commercial tomato growing experience
- Strong technical knowledge of irrigation, hydroponics, fertigation, EC, pH, climate management and crop protection
- Experience with Integrated Pest Management and biological crop protection programmes
- Experience supervising or managing growing teams and organising labour
- Analytical, technically minded and hands-on, with the ability to interpret crop data and make informed growing decisions
- Good communication and organisational skills, with good written and spoken English
- Ability to work effectively within a diverse, multicultural team

The Package
- Salary up to €5,000 per month DOE

Candidate Requirements
All applicants must hold a minimum of an NVQ Level 2, Scottish NVQ Level 2, or an equivalent qualification relevant to the role applied for. Candidates must also have the legal right to work in the UK or hold a valid visa permitting employment.
