Job Title: Environmental/Livestock Manager
Location: Ipswich, Suffolk
Salary: £30,000 + dependent on experience
Type: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Accommodation: 2/3 bedroom property available
 
About Us:
Our client is a forward-thinking agricultural and environmental management company committed to sustainable practices and the preservation of heathland ecosystems. We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Environmental/Livestock Manager to oversee our operations in Ipswich, focusing on the management and optimization of processes related to a suckler herd, calving, heathland preservation, grassland, and conservation.
Role Overview:
As the Environmental/Livestock Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the health and sustainability of our livestock and the preservation of the surrounding heathland. This position is process-oriented, focusing on efficient and responsible management practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Livestock Management:
  • Oversee the health, well-being, and breeding of the suckler herd.
  • Coordinate and manage the calving process, ensuring the welfare of both calves and cows.
  • Implement best practices for livestock nutrition, vaccination, and disease prevention.
Heathland Preservation:
  • Develop and implement strategies for the preservation and enhancement of heathland ecosystems.
  • Monitor and manage grazing patterns to support heathland biodiversity.
Grassland Management:
  • Optimize grassland resources through effective rotation and grazing management.
  • Implement strategies for grassland improvement and sustainability.
Conservation Practices:
  • Design and implement conservation initiatives to enhance biodiversity on the property.
  • Collaborate with environmental agencies and local stakeholders to ensure compliance with conservation regulations.
Process Optimization:
  • Analyze and improve operational processes for increased efficiency and sustainability.
  • Utilize data and metrics to make informed decisions and adjustments.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Proven experience in livestock management, particularly with suckler herds.
  • Knowledge of calving processes, animal husbandry, and livestock health.
  • Understanding of heathland ecosystems and conservation practices.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other team members.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with stakeholders, team members, and external partners.
