Senior tractor driver/mechanic. Suffolk– Salary Circa £25,000 - £35,000
Job Description: As a Field Trials Tractor Driver, you will play a critical role in supporting our agricultural research and field trials. You will be responsible for operating and maintaining tractors and related equipment to ensure the successful execution of various field trials and experiments. This position is ideal for an individual with a passion for agriculture, a strong work ethic, and the ability to operate tractors with precision and care.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Tractor Operation: Safely operate tractors and related agricultural equipment to perform various field trials and experiments.
  2. Equipment Maintenance: Regularly inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot tractors and associated machinery to ensure they are in optimal working condition.
  3. Field Preparation: Prepare fields for experiments, including plowing, tilling, planting, and irrigation.
  4. Crop Maintenance: Assist in crop care activities such as weeding, pest control, and fertilization, as directed by the research team.
  5. Data Collection: Accurately record and maintain data related to the field trials, including planting dates, crop health, and other relevant information.
  6. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with agricultural scientists, researchers, and other team members to implement and monitor field trials effectively.
  7. Safety Compliance: Follow safety guidelines, including the safe handling of chemicals and adherence to relevant safety regulations.
  8. Environmental Stewardship: Promote sustainable farming practices and environmental stewardship in all tractor operations.
  9. Documentation: Maintain detailed records of equipment maintenance, daily operations, and any issues encountered during field trials.
Qualifications:
  • Valid tractor operator's license and any required certifications.
  • Proven experience in tractor operation and maintenance in an agricultural setting.
  • Strong understanding of crop care and field preparation.
  • Ability to operate various agricultural machinery with precision.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate records.
  • Knowledge of safety guidelines and regulations in agriculture.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours during peak planting and harvesting seasons.
Additional Information:
  • This position may require extended hours and weekend work during critical phases of field trials.
  • Compensation and benefits will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
