Job description

Are you an experienced or newly qualified Ecologist with a passion for ecological surveys and biodiversity management? We have an exciting opportunity with a well-established, multi-disciplinary property consultancy, known for its expertise in planning, rural land management, and architectural services. We are currently seeking an Ecologist or Senior Ecologist to join our dynamic team and help drive our commitment to ecological sustainability.
Our client, an industry leader with a strong presence in Surrey, is looking to expand its planning and rural teams. As a vital part of this expansion, we are searching for an MCIEEM qualified Ecologist with a minimum of 3 years' professional experience. The successful candidate will collaborate with our Planning and Rural teams to deliver ecological surveys, reports, and enhancement opportunities in support of planning applications.

Responsibilities: 
  • Conducting ecological surveys, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, various protected species surveys, Ecological Impact Assessments, and Biodiversity Net Gain calculations.
  • Offering guidance on ecological legislation, policy, and best practices to project teams.
  • Developing mitigation and enhancement strategies for projects.
  • Managing and supervising sub-contractors as needed.
  • Staying up-to-date on ecological issues, legislation, and industry best practices.
Qualifications/Skills: 
  • A degree in Ecology or a related field.
  • Membership of CIEEM.
  • Profound knowledge of UK and EU wildlife legislation, policy, and guidance.
  • A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in ecological practice.
  • Proven experience in preparing Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, protected species surveys, and Ecological Impact Assessments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with clients, colleagues, and professionals.
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a car.
