Job description

Harvest Co-Ordinator (Soft Fruit) – Herefordshire

The Job Vacancy:

This Harvest Co-Ordinator job vacancy is based on a highly successful soft fruit farm in Herefordshire and is a fantastic opportunity for an individual to be part of a growing company, with great future progression opportunities available! This soft fruit producer employs in excess of 200 workers! As Harvest co-ordinator you will be responsible for orchestrating the picking of the product, along with managing labour requirements, training new employees, all whilst maintaining high quality regardless of external pressures. The Harvest Co-ordinator is a challenging yet fulfilling role that is vital to the successful running of the business, so we are looking for someone who will embrace the responsibility and flourish under the pressure! Although on the face of it this role appears to be seasonal, the winter months are just as busy. It’s never long after finishing one season that we begin preparing and looking forward towards the one round the corner. Due to the extensive annual audits that they undergo, there is plenty of behind the scenes work completed during the winter in order for these to run as smoothly as possible, in addition external training takes place during these ‘down times’. Management without doubt see these months, both as a period to reflect, analyse and learn, whilst building, planning and strategizing for the future. This really is a fantastic role to have within the soft fruit industry whilst working for a market leader!

Main Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • People management – as harvest co-ordinator you are responsible for the infield supervisors who in turn are collectively responsible for 200+ pickers
  • Training procedures – as harvest co-ordinator you will be in control of all internal training including inductions, health & safety and more specialised training e.g. fruit driver
  • Field Management – as harvest co-ordinator you will ensure that the product being picked is of a quality that they expect prior to packing

The Candidate:

You must be equally as capable at working alone as you are working alongside others, whether that be as part of the harvest team, management team or just as a member of the organisation. Being able to organise your time and prioritise your work load is vital, particularly during the peak season. Soft fruit is a fast paced industry which demands quick reactions in order to keep up with situations which can change rapidly without notice - you will be expected to think on your feet.

Experience of people management on a large scale previously or working within the soft fruit industry would be ideal but not necessary - more crucial is enthusiasm to improve, willingness to acquire new skills and desire to progress. The ability to use your own initiative, learn from your mistakes and aim for high standards whilst under pressure are essential.

The Package:

Dependent upon the level of experience - circa £16k - £22k basic, plus accommodation, overtime, full training, etc and definite opportunities for career progression!
