 Head Groundsman Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 per annum Location: Oxford
We are currently seeking a dynamic and motivated Groundcare Manager to join our clients team. This exciting opportunity is perfect for an experienced professional with a passion for sports grounds maintenance and a drive to deliver excellence. As the Groundcare Manager, you will play a pivotal role in supervising and leading our sports grounds team to ensure the highest standards of landscaping and maintenance are achieved across campus.
Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Grounds Manager to effectively manage and execute grounds maintenance operations, overseeing landscaping services and process management.
  • Assume a leadership role in the absence of the Grounds Manager, ensuring smooth operation of the department.
  • Take ownership of one of the large sports fields during the summer term, maintaining superior standards with the assistance of the team.
  • Establish and enforce stringent safety and maintenance standards for staff and visitors.
  • Deliver top-tier grounds maintenance services across all sites, consistently meeting the highest quality standards.
  • Manage end-to-end tasks related to ground maintenance, including scoping, cost estimation, material procurement, customer communication, and task execution either personally or through coordination with the team.
  • Monitor and evaluate the results of grounds maintenance services, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing effective solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations, adhering to industry best practices and the school's H&S policy.
  • Provide support for match day operations, ensuring the facilities are in optimal condition.
  • Collaborate closely with partners and stakeholders to create a conducive environment for the users of our grounds facilities.
  • Oversee contract management and assist in procurement activities as required.
  • Be available on-site during emergency repairs/situations to ensure temporary and safe resolutions are achieved.
  • Offer grounds maintenance and H&S support for various functions and events.
Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate for the Groundcare Manager role should possess a strong affinity for the outdoors and the ability to work in all weather conditions while engaging in manual labor. This role demands assertiveness, patience, and a helpful attitude, along with the capacity to work independently and flexibly.
Essential Skills:
  • Solid educational foundation.
  • Qualification in NVQ Level 2 in Sports Turf or PA1 & 6 Pesticides application (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrable experience in a supervisory role, showcasing skills in goal setting, performance monitoring, results achievement, and continuous improvement.
  • Proven track record of delivering exceptional grounds maintenance services.
  • Proficiency in maintenance machinery operation and upkeep.
  • Customer-centric approach and basic PC literacy.
  • Fundamental understanding of hard landscaping.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Health & Safety regulations, awareness, and implementation.
  • Expertise in cricket wicket preparation to a high standard.
