Herdsperson
Herdsperson – Leicestershire - £30,000
The Job:
A progressive dairy farm in Leicestershire is seeking an experienced and motivated Herdsperson to join its team. This is a full-time, permanent role offering an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive environment that prioritises animal welfare, sustainability, and staff well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Day to day management of a pedigree Holstein herd and followers
- Milking within a modern 15/30 herringbone parlour, operated by two people
- Maintaining high standards of animal health and welfare, including fertility, nutrition and milk quality
- Identifying and addressing health issues promptly, administering treatments as required
- Performing foot trimming and supporting herd health programmes
- Operating and maintaining farm machinery, including tractors and telehandlers
- Supervising, training and motivating team members to ensure smooth operations
- Adhering to all health and safety regulations and compliance requirements
Farm Overview:
- Approximately 200 pedigree Holsteins with all-year-round calving
- Grazing system implemented seasonally (April to October)
- Committed to sustainable farming practices and environmental stewardship
The Candidate:
- Proven experience working on a dairy farm
- Strong animal husbandry and handling skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required
- Knowledge of fertility management, nutrition, and milk quality standards
- Experience in foot trimming
- Competence in operating tractors and telehandlers
- Full, clean UK driving licence
The Package:
- Competitive salary: £28,000 – £30,000 depending on experience
