Key responsibilities include:
- Feeding, bedding, and cleaning out pigs
- Monitoring animal health and spotting welfare issues early
- Ensuring pigs have access to clean water and a healthy, well-managed outdoor environment
- Maintaining pig housing and fencing for free-range systems
- Operating weighing and feeding machinery, as well as administering veterinary treatments (with training)
- Ensuring animals meet weight and welfare standards before finishing
- Accurately recording data using farm IT systems
- Reporting to the pig unit manager, working as part of a structured team
This role requires practical skill, animal care knowledge, and a passion for free-range systems.
The Company:
This is a well-established, family-run agricultural enterprise with strong roots in the UK livestock sector. With pigs reared outdoors from birth through to finishing, the business prides itself on its commitment to animal welfare, sustainable practices, and efficient large-scale operations. Operating over 3,000 acres, the business has experienced significant growth (55%) in the past 18 months and continues to invest in staff, infrastructure, and innovation.
The Candidate:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in pig farming, ideally with breeding or free-range operations
- Proactive, hands-on individual looking to develop and grow within the business
- Demonstrated reliability, loyalty, and a genuine interest in livestock
- Comfortable with physical outdoor work in all seasons
- Strong attention to detail and good communication skills
- Willingness to learn and use farm systems and equipment
The Package:
- Salary: £36,000–£46,000 depending on experience
- Career progression opportunities within a growing, respected enterprise
- Free-range, welfare-led farming model
- No accommodation provided
- Training and support for further skill development
