Private Client Court of Protection Solicitor / Legal Executive – Devon– up to £70,000 + Excellent Benefits!
Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Court of Protection Solicitor/Legal Executive/CILEx to join our team. The successful candidate will have a genuine interest in Court of Protection work and a passion for helping elderly, disabled, and vulnerable individuals manage their financial and personal affairs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparation of COP applications, including Deputy applications and ancillary applications such as Statutory Wills and gifts
- General management of financial affairs, household, and other expenditure, including budgeting and financial scheduling
- Preparation of annual Deputy Reports to the OPG and dealing with Costs Draftsmen and the Senior Court Costs Office
- Advising and assisting clients in the execution of their financial and personal affairs
- Acting in the protection of clients from abuse, coercion, and exploitation
- Advising and working with family members, lay Attorneys, and Deputies
- Collaborating with Case Managers, Care Home Managers, and other professionals
- Advising on challenges to Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) and working with representatives such as IMCAs
- Identifying and referring potential tax issues, care funding needs, and benefit issues to dedicated departments.
- Handling property transactions through the COP to meet the Patient’s needs.
- Advising on the Mental Capacity Act and other related rules, regulations, and legislation
Legal Services:
- Providing an efficient, effective, and complete legal service
- Ensuring client satisfaction at all times
- Seeking support and advice from other team members when necessary
Skill and Knowledge:
- Minimum 3 years PQE as a Solicitor / Legal Executive / CILEx
- ACTAPS and/or STEP membership welcomed but not essential
- Ability to manage and prioritise a busy caseload
- Excellent client care skills
- Affinity with dealing with elderly, disabled, and vulnerable persons.
- Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and related legislation

- Achieving billing, time, and fee earning targets
- Co-operating with the firm’s credit control arrangements
- Managing time effectively and ensuring regular billing
- Promoting and developing the firm and the team
